"Neutral warehousing a memory from the past….?"
The ink on our latest newsletter hardly dried out, or news came along: “Glencore buying Pacorini?”
A trend has developed. Apart from the fact that I personally have very fond memories of Pacorini
(having worked in Trieste for 6 months during my early twenties…), the question remains: what does a
warehouse actually do? What is, under normal circumstances, its function? It is certainly not related to
LME storage, which involves locking up warrants and making financing deals.
We store cargo. Is that all? Far from it. We receive information, read invoices on both the purchase and the selling
side, we effect releases worldwide, including releases to banks. Apart from the logistical services, customs know-how,
VAT issues, fiscal representation (you name it, we got it…),neutrality is the most valuable asset of the warehouse.
It has been so for many years and it will be so for many years to come. Warehouses that are under ownership of trading
companies cannot handle nor keep privileged information privileged! What remains are the smaller, but most efficient,
warehouses, with an overall knowledge of the business. Yes, of course, with their ups and downs, but one thing remains
intact: their neutrality, their integrity.
To even suggest that, after being bought by a large trading company, other clients’ information will not be available to the
mother, sounds very naive to me. I would say: better safe than sorry. Preventative measures are necessary to protect your
interests. Vulcaanhaven remains an excellent alternative. Consider this: a one stop shop, stevedoring, warehousing, crushing,
logistics, customs, combined with over 30 years of experience. To me, that sounds like a pretty strong combination…. Have a good
read and hope your business says well in these challenging times.
Thank you for your continued support to Vulcaanhaven, we endeavor to serve
you to the best of our ability.
We hope you enjoy reading the newsletter and I hope to meet with you soon
again,
Yours,
Hans Meeuwisse.

Neutrality part of the deal?
As mentioned before, Vulcaanhaven believes it very important to be and to stay neutral. But you may wonder: “what does
Vulcaanhaven do to keep their neutral position?”.
First of all, Vulcaanhaven never gives out names or information about our customers to anyone. This can be done, because
we are not under ownership of a trading company, (or any company in general).
Secondly, we carefully select and educate our staff. We believe it is important to have a good look at your staff before
hiring them and training them in all aspects of the job.
And last, but not least, we have a clear separation between our front- and back office. By making sure only our front
office has contact with our clients, we are sure only our well trained staff will be in contact with our clients. And
that well trained staff is trained in our back office….
The best way to protect your interest is to remain 100% neutral.. We achieve that by selecting excellent talents in combination
with sound IT, train them in our back office ‘on the job’. Vulcaanhaven? Trustworthy, reliable, efficient. Neutrality guaranteed!

Vulcaanhaven will attend MB's Ferro-alloys Conference
Vulcaanhaven will be attending the 26th international Ferro-alloys Conference, 14-16 November in Berlin.
Vulcaanhaven will be happy to meet you and inform you on the new developments within our organisation.. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We will be happy to answer them.
Vulcaanhaven attends Johan Cruyff Foundation wheelchair sports day
Each year, the Johan Cruyff Foundation organises an even for children with a disability. These children can participate in three different
sports, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair hockey and wheelchair basketball. During the day, they can play with and against famous Dutch wheelchair
athletes. Vulcaanhaven supports this day and the Johan Cruyff foundation, because we believe every child has the right to play sports and should
be supported in this.
The focus of this years event was placed on the so-called “E-wheelchairs”, or Electronic wheelchairs. These wheelchairs are specially made for
children who have a muscular disease, spasms or some kind of paraplegia. The problem, however, is the fact that these e-wheelchairs cost up to
€10.000,- and are not fully compensated by the insurance companies. The Johan Cruyff Foundation helps these children, and their families, to
buy these e-wheelchairs, so they can play the sport they like.
World port days: A big success!
The 33 rd edition of the world port days, September 3rd – 5th, have been a great success. Officials report over
400.000 visitors came to watch the event, which is more compared to last years event.

During the event, port companies presented themselves in the centre of Rotterdam with as much equipment as possible, such as big ships and cranes (see photo), which can normally only be seen in the port.. Many people enjoyed the great weather and came to the centre of Rotterdam to watch the shows.
Saturday night was filled with music and fireworks, which again attracted a lot of visitors.
Next to the visitors on quay, around 25,000 people took the Spido excursion through the port to get a close view of what goes on in the port.
All in all it was a great event, with great weather and a lot of visitors.

Maasvlakte 2: an interesting project
The creating of a new port in Rotterdam has started just over a year ago. A good moment to look into this big project.
The official goal of the project looks at both nature and the economy: “Creating space in both the port and the region, for both business and nature. So that the quality of life in the whole region improves in net terms.”
It is important for the port of Rotterdam to keep growing, to make sure it will stay an important port in the future. In order to do so, a project called “Maasvlakte 2” was created. The project started last year and the first part of the project, approximately 700acres, should be ready in 2013. The new port will be directly connected to deep water and will total 1000acres when it is completed.
Creating such a port will always cause damage to nature. Therefore, with respect and consideration to nature, other projects have been initiated to compensate for this damage.
We are closely following the project and will keep you up to speed on the new developments.

Sparta
Rotterdam
Sparta Rotterdam is playing in the 2nd league this year, as they didn’t manage to go through the play-off matches last year. The goal of this year will be to get back to the highest level.
The season started very promising by winning 12-1 (twelve to one!) against Almere F.C. The matches which followed, however, were not always as good, resulting in a current 4th place.
This week they will play an away game against RKC Waalwijk in an attempt to stay close to the first position. Good luck guys!
If you want to see one of the home games please let us know. The new season has only just started, and we are able to take you to the matches of Sparta.
A game at Sparta is always a big happening, with a great atmosphere. You will enjoy it with us.
