"Role of warehouses becoming more and more imminent"
It appears to be a never ending story: large global trading houses buying warehouses. Once you think the dust has settled, we read Noble buying an American warehouse. Where possibly, in the past, warehouses were seen as service providers and at some point ‘unnecessary costs’ the role of the warehouse becomes more and more important. In our previous newsletters we discussed the neutral character, banks worldwide needing to trust the warehouses on releases once material was collateralised.
So what has changed to date? Where in previous decades warehouses with logistical services were seen as an added cost, warehouses are now seen as an integrated part of the whole cycle. That is extremely good news! The in-depth knowledge of the modern warehouse goes beyond just storing commodities. There is quality control, customs requirements (also subject to constant change) fiscal representation, bills of lading, releases. All supported with good IT systems. Without warehouses and without transport: everything else stops. That is for sure.
Thank you for your continued support to Vulcaanhaven, we endeavor to serve
you to the best of our ability.
Hope to see you in Berlin and enjoy reading our update on Vulcaanhaven!
Yours,
Hans Meeuwisse.

Crushing metals, there is more to it then you may think!
Starting this month, we will spend some time in telling you something about our main activities, such as screening, crushing, warehousing etc. This month’s activity is crushing, a very interesting and unique part of our activities.
It may sound quite simple: crushing big chunks of metal into smaller chunks, but looks may deceive. This is actually a very specialised and hard job, which requires a lot of knowledge, equipment and precision. This is why there are only a few companies in Europe capable of crushing the various types of metals.
First of all this is because of the equipment needed to crush. Crushing requires you to have special equipment for different types of metals. Each metal has its own specifications, which may require a different approach when it comes to crushing.
This also introduces the second barrier for crushing. Companies need to know all these special specifications of the metals in order to be able to crush them. Some metals may get very warm and some will even produce a lot of flames. In order to be able to ensure safety and to get the right result, a lot of knowledge is needed.
Besides needing equipment and knowhow, there is another aspect which needs careful attention: the environment and legislation. These two go together, as crushing metals may produce dangerous dust or, as mentioned before, flames. In order to ensure the safety of the workers and the environment, there is very strict legislation when it comes to crushing. Companies who want to be able to crush, will need to be licensed and their facility will have to meet very strict requirements concerning safety and extraction.
Vulcaanhaven is proud to meet all these standards and possesses the knowledge needed to crush your metals.
Next month we will go into screening the metals. This is a very important part of processing the metals!

Neutrality; the past, present and the future
In the last edition of our newsletter we commented on the fact that more and more warehousers seem to lose their neutrality. Yet it is the neutrality which is so important for many producers. We find this topic so important, that we decided to spend some more attention on this topic in this newsletter.
One may wonder whether the disappearance of neutral warehousers is a trend which will continue, or whether the remaining neutral warehousers stay neutral. This is a tough question, and of course, we cannot look into the future. However, We can promise you one thing: Vulcaanhaven has always been, and will always be a neutral warehouser
Why do we stay neutral?
We believe it is very important that our customers can be 100% sure that we will never give out any information to third parties. We will never give out names of our customers or any prices. This is essential for doing good business.
How do we stay neutral?
We stay neutral by training and selecting our staff very carefully. We train them in every aspect of the job, including teaching them the importance of the neutrality.
Also, we have a good division between our front- and back office. As we only let our well trained front office staff talk with our customers, we again make sure that no information is ever passed on.
How about the future?
We have said it before and we will keep on saying in: We will always stay neutral! And we will always do everything we can in order to keep up to this promise.
Meeting us at MB’s Ferro-alloys Conference
As mentioned in our last newsletter, Vulcaanhaven will be attending MB’s Ferro-alloys Conference, 14-16 November in Berlin. Both Hans Meeuwisse and Bob van Buul will be attending this conference and will be more then happy to talk to you.
Please feel free to contact us at any time during the conference. Or, if you want to make sure not to miss us, you can simply reply on this newsletter stating you would like to meet us at the conference. We will be happy to set up a meeting.
See you in Berlin!

Vulcaanhaven donates special bikes to Johan Cruyff Foundation
TIn our previous newsletter, you could read how Vulcaanhaven supported the Johan Cruyff Foundation by donating special wheelchairs. On the 22nd of September, there was another special day of the Johan Cruyff Foundation. This time it was all about taking initiative, and “dare to do something new!”.
Around 2000 children attended this day in which they could play sports against famous Dutch sportsmen. There were also many more festive activities which, together with the great weather, made sure all these children had the time of their life.
As always, Vulcaanhaven wanted to help these children with a disability. This time the focus was on bikes for disables kids. These bikes are very expensive and therefore it is often almost impossible for parents to buy these bikes. In total, 40 bikes were given to these children. 1.5 of these bikes were donated by Vulcaanhaven.
We have said it before and will keep on saying it. Vulcaanhaven believes every child has the right to play sports and to make fun. Therefore we will keep on supporting these children and the Johan Cruyff Foundation.

Sparta
Rotterdam
Sparta Rotterdam is doing what it can to get back to the Eredivisie, the highest level in Holland, as soon as possible. After losing in the playoffs last year, the only goal of this season is to get back to the highest level.
After 10 matches, Sparta can be found on the fifth place on the ranking, but only has 4 points less then the current number one (FC Zwolle). This means promoting to the Eredivisie is still very well possible and a realistic goal.
This week Sparta will face Den Bosch in the race to the championship. If they will be able to continue the strong play they showed last week (winning 5-0 against Emmen), we are sure they will finish this match with a good result!
If you want to see one of the home games please let us know. The new season has only just started, and we are able to take you to the matches of Sparta.
A game at Sparta is always a big happening, with a great atmosphere. You will enjoy it with us.
