"Consider that....."
Professionals at work! The finalisation of our latest stocks handling programme finds VCH in a rare situation: we realised the best tailor made IT surrounding available at the moment, consequently becoming the best in reporting in our business.
Consider that...... With our latest updated environmental license and customs status, our deepwater quay, crushing/screening and packing services, can we ask for more? Consider that..... All these ingredients make it that customers worldwide appreciate our quick handling and reporting. In combination with our "on top of the job" office on the terminal and high levelled security, Vulcaanhaven has what it takes.
Consider that..... Last minute jobs are no longer optional at Vulcaanhaven, they have become our standard.
Consider that.... So, all in all, if you have not yet had the pleasure of working with Vulcaanhaven, you are missing out because we save you time. Apart from the fact our staff is enjoyable to work with. Consider that.....
We hope you enjoy reading the newsletter,

Third Party Warehousing - an accident waiting to happen!
From a legal point of view third party warehousing is a nightmare. Party A (client) stores at party B (3rd party), although A believes B owns/rents/runs the warehouse. Party B concludes a price deal with party C (the actual warehouse). Party B is ‘in the middle’ paying a fee to C, receiving a higher fee from A. On times of theft, what to do? Is it properly insured, was the insurance company aware of B’s role? How about commodity finance? Is the bank aware?
After all, it is his collateral. Party B does not pay party C, business is not to good, operating costs for B are higher then his revenues. Party C is not amused, he wants to get paid. Despite various efforts, no funds are received. Finally party C does not deliver out to party B whom he sees as his principal. The real principal, party A, paid all his dues to party B. Party B eventually disappears. Party C finally connects with Party A. Party A can get his cargo, of course, as long as all warehouse costs are paid…… Party A pays twice. Be alert and realise who you are dealing with, it avoids many problems.
Customs Corner
Customs administration is more than a simple T1 document. The world of customs and VAT is a world in itself. Lack of knowledge when dealing with this important aspect of our daily business can cause serious financial damage to the client...
Did you know that you are liable for VAT when the administration is not in accordance with regulations set by the authorities? At Vulcaanhaven we invest in proper computer systems to ensure a 100% control over all cargoes, in and out, crushed/screened, repacked, accompanied by all necessary and correct customs papers. Once a truck has reached the final destination, signed cmr waybills are received back into our office for further completion of our administration for Fiscal Representation.
You see for yourself: when the truck has left our warehouse, our job is only finished when all documentation is handled correctly. Any questions? Feel free to connect with us. Thank you for choosing Vulcaanhaven!
"We’ve got IT!"
The combination of an extreme low unemployment in Holland together with a shrinking workforce within the Port of Rotterdam gives food for thought.
Consider that our business is a very specific business, not to be taught at schools/universities. Yet, service levels must be maintained and response times/reporting to clients worldwide is essential to our business. The Vulcaanhaven initiatives, taken and started up 3 years ago, to combine a special customs bonded facility together with a highly defined IT has resulted in an overall time savings of 57% overall. With our present team we are now able to handle even more tonnages at the same time. The system includes direct reporting to customs of all stock movements, clients reporting, Fiscal Representation and invoicing to clients. Vulcaanhaven always looks for a win/win situation. Higher productivity per individual internally, clients profit from quick reporting, available at Vulcaanhaven fingertips. If you require more information you are invited for a personal digital tour. And when you are a visitor in our office, we might include a tour on the terminal as well. After all, no matter what we IT, the physical work still needs to be carried out by our workforce. We have not started thinking about robotizing that part…..

MR. NICE GUY....
In all my 29 years of working experience in the Rotterdam Port, I have observed a lot, as you can imagine. One of the most peculiar experiences is the Nice Guy. He gets the business, because he is a nice guy. Never understood that. Is ?nice guy? synonymous for a good, professional understanding of the business? Nine times out of 10 it is not.
I know. At Vulcaanhaven, colleagues have a wide know how of customs, chartering, warehousing, trucking, bills of lading, processing, you name it. Of course it is a great asset when the company has multi functional staff, genuinely interested in serving the client, with a sound knowledge of the technical side of the business. Servicing you to the best of their ability. And that ability is available at Vulcaanhaven. Believe me!
From a distance (clients communicate with us by mail or phone) it is very hard to tell. The nightmare of all nightmares for clients, commodity banks and insurance companies? A Nice Guy as a third party warehouse....
Perhaps something to be discussed in Athens, the Metal Bulletin Conference starting the 4th of November?

The Golfer and his Caddy: Teamwork
Ever had a close look at how golf is played on a high level? The caddy carrying the bag of the golfer only? Not at all, the caddy does much more. He/she knows the pin positions on each green, knows distances to be hit, knows distances his ‘boss’ the golfer can hit, knows his weaknesses and strenghts, can read undulations on each green and does a lot of preparation work: in all, a caddy indeed is much more than a carrier of the golf bag. Now look at the relationship between you, our client (the golfer) and us (the caddy). You: you decide, perform to your clients, you score. Us: we assist, carry some burden, absord stress, know our way aroung in warehousing, processing & logistics. In all, not much of a difference. `
Clients & Vulcaanhaven, operating like a team. We both strive for success!
Sparta
Rotterdam
Unfortunately this newsletter is one week too late. Why? Well, Sparta was ranked higher than its city rival Feyenoord last week. After the defeat in this weeks match against Groningen, Sparta had to switch positions with Feyenoord.
The match against Groningen showed Sparta that it still has a lot of work to do. The ‘Club of the Castle’ lost with 3-0, and it was deserved. There were no possibilities to score.
It was a match with a new record, however there was nothing to celebrate. Sparta has not kept a clean sheet in the last 24 away matches. Lets hope this week, in the confrontation against Feyenoord, things will lighten up in Rotterdam-Spangen.
If you want to see one of the home games please let us know. Also next
season we will be able to take you to the matches of Sparta. A game at
Sparta is always a big happening, with a great atmosphere. You will
enjoy it with us.

Joke of the Month
Its amazing to think out of the box
An old Scottish man lived alone in Aberdeen.
He wanted to dig his potato garden, but it was hard work for his advanced years as the ground was very hard.
His only son, David who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament.
Dear Son,
I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my potato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me.
Love Dad.
A few days later he received a letter from his son.
Dear Dad,
Don't dig up the garden. That's where I buried the stolen money.
Love David
At 4 A.M. the next morning, The FBI, Police, CSI arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any money.
They apologized to the old man and left.
That same day the old man received another letter from his son.
Dear Dad,
Go ahead and plant the potatos now. Your garden is now dug, That's the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love David
