"Neutral warehousing becoming scarce....."

JP Morgan buys Henry Bath. Goldman Sachs buys Metro. Trafigura buys NEMS warehousing. The start of a trend? Not an unexpected one with present volumes in LME warehouses.

Who else is negotiating to buy warehouses? There are a few available. Does this limit the availability of neutral warehouses? It most probably does. For neutral warehousing, effective releases with banks, an excellent customs entrepot, efficient Fiscal Representation, Vulcaanhaven guarantees you a neutral service.

Neutrality: the most precious asset of a warehouse. Not only is it essential in the safeguarding of your interest, it protects your future business. At Vulcaanhaven we pride ourselves in swift releases. Correct stock keeping and 100% neutrality. We have done so for the past 30 years. And will continue to do so or many years to come. See you at Vulcaanhaven!

Thank you for our continued support to Vulcaanhaven, we endeavor to serve you to the best of our ability.

We hope you enjoy reading the newsletter and I hope to meet with you soon again,

Yours,

Hans Meeuwisse.

Beying inspired by seeing what we like most, we know that we can be of better service to our clients. Let it be warehousing or forwarding, transportation solutions or customs issues: Vulcaanhaven is your reliable partner!

KNRM 185 years old!

Vulcaanhaven sponsors KNRM
Vulcaanhaven has been a proud sponsor of KNRM for the past 20 years. The KNRM saves people's lives during storms on several coastal areas of Holland. The association is purely dependant on volunteers and gifts from sponsors. The KNRM chose to operate completely independent and non subsidised ever since its inception in 1824! During the 'open days' the full range of vessels is presented, the Kids Club is growing each year and test drives by the boats can be made. Overall 1.100 volunteers keep up this excellent work. Vulcaanhaven will continue to support KNRM. Check at www.knrm.nl The dutch struggle with water is never over....

Construction of Maasvlakte 2 proceeding well

World record: 3.8 million m3 sand in one week!

The construction of Maasvlakte 2, the land reclamation project in the North Sea that will enlarge the port of Rotterdam with 2,000 ha, is proceeding well. Two weeks ago, construction consortium PUMA shifted the largest amount of sand ever in one week in a land reclamation project. Eleven Boskalis and Van Oord trailing suction hopper dredgers transported 3.8 million m3 of sand to the Maasvlakte 2 area in just one week, which is thought to be a world record.

Maastvlakte 2Last Sunday, the 120 millionth m3 of sand was sprayed on. This means that half of all the sand needed for the first phase of Maasvlakte 2 up to 2013 has now been applied. The project is therefore well on schedule. Construction of the first quay wall started in February and PUMA has begun building the hard sea defences on the northwest side of the new land. Here, a peninsula stretching around 3 km has been sprayed on in recent months. At the moment, a unique crane - the 'Blockbuster'- is being put together and will be used to position large concrete blocks as part of these sea defences. With this, the construction of Maasvlakte 2 will enter a new phase.

Vulcaanhaven Promises

VulcaanhavenIn our business environment, the companies like Vulcaanhaven carry a big responsibility towards her clients worldwide. We must act as eyes & ears, be a good housefather for the commodities we handle in and out. Sound back up administration on customs, stocks and fiscal representation are essential to keep authorities satisfied. Serious warehousing companies take a long term view on our business, always have and always will commit to investments. Equipment, additional warehousing space, security, staffing, all licenses for customs & environment. All part of our daily workload. Investments do not go beyond a computer, an office and a nice chat on the phone.

We do need good rates. Good rates for the warehouse and competitive rates for the client can go hand in hand. As long as the warehouse sticks to a certain rate and the client is not “penny wise – pound foolish”….. We started by saying we carry a big responsibility.

The financial consequences of rock bottom low rates lead to warehouses services deteriorating and planning to fail, making both us and our clients unhappy. Also this year, we will take our responsibility, just as you are used to based on our performances over the last 30 years.

Fenex Conditions - A Reminder

For many years Fenex conditions apply when working with Vulcaanhaven. A copy in your language can be downloaded through the links below, or sent upon request. Also in 2007 the Fenex conditions apply and it should be noted to clients in their dealings with warehouses, including Vulcaanhaven.

Reference to these conditions is made on all our invoices and correspondence.

Joke of the Month

Moral to a story

The teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment: Get their parents to tell them a story with a moral at the end of it.

The next day, the kids came back and, one by one, began to tell their stories.

There were all the regular types of stuff: spilled milk and pennies saved. But then the teacher realized, much to her dismay, that only Janie was left.

Janie, do you have a story to share?' '

'Yes ma'am. My daddy told me a story about my Mommy. She was a Marine Pilot in Desert Storm, and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy territory, and all she had was a flask of whiskey, a pistol, and a survival knife. She drank the whiskey on the way down so the bottle wouldn't break, and then her parachute landed her right in the middle of 20 Iraqi troops.

She shot 15 of them with the pistol, until she ran out of bullets, killed four more with the knife, till the blade broke, and then she killed the last Iraqi with her bare hands.

"Good Heavens," said the horrified teacher.
" What did your Daddy tell you was the moral to this horrible story?"

"Stay away from Mommy when she's been drinking....."
