"Vulcaanhaven Conditions"
An asset to the Vulcaanhaven service is our excellent terminal. With deepwater facilities (12 meters) and enough space, warehouses and equipment, we can handle all stevedoring, bulk/breakbulk storage, crushing/screening and packing, and weighbridge activities that you require.
Last but not least we have an office on top of the terminal to watch over your material. This leads to direct communications, quick feed back from the warehouse to you, all in all, worthwhile trying out this service!
If our terminal is not enough to convince you to try the Vulcaanhaven Standard, the service package offered by our office will! Our customs department has extensive knowledge on all aspects including fiscal representation. This in combination with our 30 years experience in the business and a big network of partners to work with, Vulcaanhaven offers a wide variety of services at the highest standard you might expect from us.
All in all an all in service…. Our office on top of the terminal, Vulcaanhaven on top of the world? We surely feel like it!
I hope you enjoy reading the newsletter,
we welcome any input that you may have and hope you enjoy reading them as
much as we are making them.
Yours,
Hans Meeuwisse.

Rotterdam: Port of Steel
The processing of steel products is increasing rapidly over the world, with an all time high last year of 1.5 billion tonnes in 2007. Countries like China, Brazil, Russia and India are the main drivers behind this increase. The increase in total export of these countries, stimulates ports around the world to invest in steel handling terminals and possibilities.
At Vulcaanhaven we also see an increase of the importance of steel. If you have any questions concerning the possibilities of teaming up Vulcaanhaven with the handling of steel, please contact our
and we will be happy to assist you!
Johan Cruyff shows Vulcaanhaven tricks of the trade
As a frequent reader of our newsletter you might know that Vulcaanhaven supports the Johan Cruyff foundation. This foundation founded by Johan Cruyff in 1997 supports projects and organisations that try to improve the physical and mental health of children by playing sports. This includes the support of sports for physically and disabled children, but also the building of Cruyff Courts (small soccer pitches in the city).
Every year the Cruijff foundation organises a soccer tournament for it sponsors, and this year was the first time that a Vulcaanhaven team participated.
It turned out to be a wonderful day in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. As always motivated to perform well, Vulcaanhaven did not lose in the first group phase. Not even to a team that consisted of Johan Cruyff himself and former players of the Dutch national team. However, due to a worse scoring balance than the team of Johan Cruyff, our team did not continue to the semi-finals.
During the entire day, everybody enjoyed themselves. Therefore, on behalf of the team, we would like to thank our CEO Hans Meeuwisse for this opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade from the master Johan Cruyff himself.
PS Ofcourse we made a lot of pictures. See below for a team photo with Johan Cruyff himself, and click here for the entire album.

Not all containers scanned in 2012
When it is up to Laszlo Kovacs (Euro commissioner taxes and customs), not all containers shipped from the port of Rotterdam to the United States of America will be scanned with an X-ray. Originally this was the plan, starting from 2012, but the Euro commissioner expects that this would lead to an unacceptable loss of efficiency in the Port of Rotterdam. Kovacs hopes that the Americans will 'come to sense' and won't go through with the 100% rule that was intended. Part of the hope of Kovacs is based on the switch of government that is coming up in the coming year in the USA. A more mildly government is expected, which would allow different measures to be sufficient to protect the nations security. Furthermore the argument that such scans would only create fake safety feelings, since not all harmful content can be seen on a scan anyway.
To be sure, Jan Kees de Jager (Dutch State Secretary of Finance), will design a plan to implement the 100% checks as quickly as possible when they do become compulsory. This way, we can be quicker and more efficient in the future, something Vulcaanhaven is always trying to be.
Vulcaanhaven enjoys strong network
Vulcaanhaven has always been proud of it's strong network around the world. This allows us to get additional business, interesting partnerships and good rates for our clients. A recent example is the increase of fuel prices. Vulcaanhaven nurtures a strong network of transport companies that deliver your cargo all over the world. The use of this network allows us to offer you competitive prices, even with this increase of fuel prices. That's Vulcaanhaven standard!
Sparta
Rotterdam
Even though the season is over, Sparta has to overcome a severe loss. Technical Manager Danny Blind has been contracted by Ajax. This means that Sparta will have to look for a new Technical Manager, and replacing Danny Blind (42 games for national team, 372 games for Ajax) will be hard. Even so, we are confident that Sparta will continue the upward trend of the end of last season. This means that we have tickets available again for each home game. You are welcome to join us if you want, we are just one phone call away!
If you want to see one of the home games please let us know. Also next
season we will be able to take you to the matches of Sparta. A game at
Sparta is always a big happening, with a great atmosphere. You will
enjoy it with us.

Joke of the Month
Golfing
"How was your game, dear?" asked Jack's wife Tracy.
"Well, I was hitting pretty well, but my eyesight's gotten so bad I couldn't see where the ball went," he answered.
"But you're 75 years old, Jack!" admonished his wife, "Why don't you take my brother Scott along?"
"But he's 85 and doesn't play golf anymore," protested Jack.
"But he's got perfect eyesight. He would watch the ball for you," Tracy pointed out.
The next day Jack teed off with Scott looking on. Jack swung and the ball disappeared down the middle of the fairway.
"Do you see it?" asked Jack.
"Yup," Scott answered.
"Well, where is it?" yelled Jack, peering off into the distance.
"I forgot."
