"Vulcaanhaven Newyears-wish"
Vulcaanhaven and its staff wishes you and your family a happy and healthy 2010 in every respect!
The new year will no doubt bring new challenges that we need to face. Are we ready for them? A good friend from New York once said “…we were born ready…” .The remark itself represents what Vulcaanhaven stands for, a get up and go mentality, pleasantly aggressive, winners have a plan, losers an excuse.
The past decade proved to be extremely successful for Vulcaanhaven. Once the terminal was purchased back in 2000/2001, the turn financial around was quickly achieved. The sale & leaseback arrangement on the real estate property, back in 2004, effectively made Vulcaanhaven debt free. To date that has remained this way. Vulcaanhaven continues to work as a mean & lean team, with multi functional players. Supported with excellent IT and additional facilities in Moerdijk, Vulcaanhaven in every respect is ready for the coming decade.
Be it on consultancy for warehousing, crushing/screening of all ferro alloys, customs, logistics worldwide, Vulcaanhaven has what it takes to support your business. In addition financing and investment has become a new part of our activities. Welcome to our news offices, welcome to our world!
Thank you for our continued support to Vulcaanhaven, we endeavor to serve you to the best of our ability.
We hope you enjoy reading the newsletter and I hope to meet with you soon again,
Yours,
Hans Meeuwisse.

Port of Rotterdam on the way back
The port of Rotterdam has had a degrease in total turnover of 8.5% in the last year, but expects to get back into positive figures in 2010 due to the financial recovery during the last few months. Though these are difficult times, this decrease is much lower than expected. President of the Port of Rottedam, Hans Smits, states: “Based on the current financial situation, we are positive that the current trend of growth as well as the new investment plans, will help the Rotterdam Port get back on track.” Further he mentions that the Port of Rotterdam is doing much better than its competitors.
New Offices look Grand!
'You should have done this before…" is what we hear most of the time. The offices right across the terminal look fantastic and are a great improvement in comparison with the old office.
New Year, Fresh Start for Vulcaanhaven
After a procedure that lasted for almost three years, Vulcaanhaven is pleased to announce that Fenex arbitrators have rendered their final award and have rejected Metaltrade's alleged claims against Vulcaanhaven. It has now irrevocably been established that Metaltrade's allegations are unfounded.
Vulcaanhaven has felt confident during the entire arbitration that it would eventually clear its good name and reputation.
Vulcaanhaven is may now devote its full attention and entire energy again to the service of its customers. Vulcaanhaven thanks its customers for their continued support.

Vulcaanhaven Promises
In our business environment, the companies like Vulcaanhaven carry a big responsibility towards her clients worldwide. We must act as eyes & ears, be a good housefather for the commodities we handle in and out. Sound back up administration on customs, stocks and fiscal representation are essential to keep authorities satisfied. Serious warehousing companies take a long term view on our business, always have and always will commit to investments. Equipment, additional warehousing space, security, staffing, all licenses for customs & environment. All part of our daily workload. Investments do not go beyond a computer, an office and a nice chat on the phone.
We do need good rates. Good rates for the warehouse and competitive rates for the client can go hand in hand. As long as the warehouse sticks to a certain rate and the client is not “penny wise – pound foolish”….. We started by saying we carry a big responsibility.
The financial consequences of rock bottom low rates lead to warehouses services deteriorating and planning to fail, making both us and our clients unhappy. Also this year, we will take our responsibility, just as you are used to based on our performances over the last 30 years.

Ice-free Port of Rotterdam

The surveillance boats of the Port of Rotterdam did not yet have to remove ice in the Port. Since the Netherlands is suffering from some heavy winter weather, these boats have been making extra rounds to keep an eye on the accessibility of the port. If needed, the special surveillance boat RPA 20 is fully equipped to remove ice, so weather should not lead to additional delays or any other logistical problems.
This proactive attitude towards problem is just how we handle situations at Vulcaanhaven. We look ahead, and make sure that our clients interests are served, now and in the future. This means that when you partner up with Vulcaanhaven, you will get a worry-free and top of the line full-service package. That is what we call: The Vulcaanhaven Package.
Sparta
Rotterdam
Sparta Rotterdam holds a 11th position in the middle of the season. The team of coach Frans Adelaar was able to collect 18 points in just as many matches. Though the 11th position seems satisfactory for now, the differences in the lower regions of the league are only 3 points. This means that the team has enough to focus on during their training sessions in Turkey this winter!
The first match after the winter break will be against ADO Den Haag for the Dutch league, but only a few days later Sparta has to play for the Cup, a quarter final match against FC Twente. Good luck guys!
If you want to see one of the home games please let us know. The new season will quickly start again, we will be able to take you to the matches of Sparta. A game at
Sparta is always a big happening, with a great atmosphere. You will
enjoy it with us.

Joke of the Month
Habits
One day,a laboratory rabbit escapes from his cage. Outside the compound, he tastes fresh grass for the first time."This is incredible,"he thinks. He soon finds wild rabbits playing in the fields."I've just escaped from the lab," he says."What do you rabbits do?"
“We eat grass and carrots from private gardens.”
The wild rabbits ask the lab rabbit "are you going to live with us?"
The lab rabbit says: “No, I think not, I have to get back to the lab since I am dying for a cigarette.
