Director/Coach – Business or Pleasure ...What’s the difference?

You probably recognize the following situation: Daughter (17) plays soccer. Their trainer & coach left. After many others, the club finally addresses you (I was 6th in line, bad for my ego) if you would like to do the job. No qualifications asked, as long as the gap is filled. Of course it would be tempting to confirm immediately. But as professionals showed me on television recently, I took the time "...for advice and taking the job under consideration..." (yeah, like you are getting paid for it!). And of course you take on the job. Training sessions on Mondays/Wednesdays, match on Saturday. In all the team consists of 17 girls, age 13/17, becoming 14/18.  And I thought I had problems running my staff... But:

The first 6 games, we were unbeaten and 2nd in our league of 11, 2 draws, 4 wins! What happened after that remains undisclosed…

The moral of the story. Achievements are rarely made solo. The TEAM (Together Each Achieves More) was, is and always will be the most important asset to any company. Or soccer club for that matter. My respect goes to my Vulcaanhaven teammates, allowing me to invest my time in this team, supporting me with all sorts of advice (you can imagine our Monday mornings... or mournings for some). In the spirit of Vulcaanhaven, it means that what we do, we do with great enthusiasm, commitment, dedication and a positive attitude! No matter if it is business or pleasure, work or soccer. Have a good read and looking forward to seeing you soon on many of the conferences me or my teammates will visit the last quarter!

T.J. (Hans) Meeuwisse.

Vulcaanhaven: the missing link between producer & consumer?

When producers (P) wish to sell/supply the consumers (C), through the Port of Rotterdam,  P needs a reliable service point which handles all aspects in customs requirements, warehousing, processing & logistics in an efficient manner.

Without it, P will encounter many problems if the know-how is not available ‘in house’. It becomes time consuming, counter productive and at various moments, simply frustrating. Not in the least because of changing rules & regulations. Is doing direct business between P & C impossible or to say the least, extremely difficult? Not necessarily. Vulcaanhaven is a ‘one stop shop’ for both P & C, a central distribution point where all aspects in the logistical chain is taken care of in a professional manner.

From receiving cargoes in our warehouse, to lodging bs/l, issuing customs clearances and vat matter, until processing of all ferro alloys, repacking, sworn weighing and worldwide transportation to the place of destination ( C ).

In conclusion: Is there a missing link between P & C. Perhaps it looks like it at first sight. Looking at Vulcaanhaven, you should look at it as your found link in doing business from Producer to Consumer.

Infrastructure yearly check and clean up

Efficiency on our terminal, means a higher daily production. Subsequently a quicker service to our clients. Vulcaanhaven wishes to work in an environment that is well looked after, running a “tight ship”.  Each year we do our painting and check of the infrastructure, where can we improve, what can we achieve in the future. Our terminal  IS  improving year in year out. And it shows! Take a look at the pictures and see the results of our efforts.

Joke of the month – Scottish tooth extraction...

A Scotsman phones his dentist to inquire about the cost for a tooth extraction. "85 pounds for an extraction, sir" the dentist replied: "85 pounds!!!!"

"Huv ye no' got anythin' cheaper?"

"That's the normal charge," said the dentist.

"Whit aboot if ye didnae use any anaesthetic?"

"That's  unusual sir, but I could do it and knock 15 pounds off"

"Whit about if ye used one of your dentist trainees and still without an anaesthetic?"

"I can't guarantee their professionalism and it'll be painful. But the price could drop to 40 pounds"

"How aboot if ye make it a trainin' session, ave yer student do the extraction, with the other students watchin' and learnin'?

"It'll be good for the students" mulled the dentist. "I'll charge you 5 pounds, but it's going to be very traumatic"

"Och, now yer talkin' laddie! It's a deal" said the Scotsman.

"Can ye confirm an appointment for the wife next Tuesday then?"

spartaSparta Rotterdam bottom of the league: 7 played, 1 point

Probably the worst start ever seen. Nonetheless, Sparta plays great soccer, simply does not score based on the chances they create. Inventive, technical, superfluous. Great to watch!

An evening at the "Kasteel" stadium is your guarantee for a fantastic evening out, a unique and friendly atmosphere. The Kasteel Stadium (Dutch word for Castle) has recently celebrated 90 years with history written all over it.
