MR. NICE GUY....

In all my 29 years of working experience in the Rotterdam Port, I have observed a lot, as you can imagine. One of the most peculiar experiences is the Nice Guy. He gets the business, because he is a nice guy. Never understood that. Is ‘nice guy’ synonymous for a good, professional understanding of the business? Nine times out of 10 it is not.

I know. At Vulcaanhaven, colleagues have a wide know how of customs, chartering, warehousing, trucking, bills of lading, processing, you name it. Of course it is a great asset when the company has multi functional staff, genuinely interested in serving the client, with a sound knowledge of the technical side of the business. Servicing you to the best of their ability. And that ability is available at Vulcaanhaven. Believe me!

From a distance (clients communicate with us by mail or phone) it is very hard to tell. The nightmare of all nightmares for clients, commodity banks and insurance companies?  A Nice Guy as a third party warehouse....

Perhaps something to be discussed at Dan Day’s Robinsons’ conference in July?

This event covers crucial aspects of commodity finance. With over 20 speakers from China to Brazil, the conference covers the latest developments in inventory and warehouse receipts financing, with case studies. What are the core components of transaction; the “must haves”? How to use “work arounds” to overcome local regulatory/legislative impediments. The do’s and don’ts when establishing a warehouse receipts structure from scratch. What constitutes “bankability” and how can the construction of a deal meet the challenges faced by both borrowers and bankers alike? The use of SPV's. Essential issues to KYC and for combating fraud. This meeting covers all of the latest global developments - with  examples of deal structures from the Middle East, China, Latin America, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe & Russia.

Partnership Vulcaanhaven BV and JSC Soyuzkhimtrans International.

As Vulcaanhaven is always looking to narrow the gap with her clients and continually seeks to improve her level of service, we have come to a partnership with Soyuzkhimtrans International, one of the largest transport-forwarding companies in the port of St. Petersburg.

Soyuzkhimtrans is specialised in logistics services, intermodal transport through the port of St. Petersburg, handling chemicals, ferrous and non-ferrous metals,  heavy equipment, paper and cellulose, timber and wooden products, oversized goods etc.

In the beginning of June a delegation of Soyuzkhimtrans headed by Mrs. Tatiana A. Sushkova visited our offices and terminal in Rotterdam. It resulted in the signing of a  Cooperation Agreement between our companies. Soyuzkhimtrans will act as representative of Vulaanhaven in the port of St.Petersburg and is authorized to operate for and on behalf of our company. Vulcaanhaven for her part will provide the  necessary assistance to customers of Soyuzkhimtrans in Rotterdam.

Together with our office in Tallinn, Estonia both companies are able to provide a comprehensive service to our clients in the Baltic, St Petersburg area and beyond.

9 Million Euro Claim against ECT-terminal

New implementation of a computer system at one of the container terminals of ECT in Rotterdam has not gone without problems. For weeks in a row, delays in picking up containers ran into 5 to 6 hours waiting time per container. Dutch Forwarding Associations FENEX and Transport & Logistic Nederland have lodged complaints and a claim of 9 million euros.

Cruise Season Started - Volvo Ocean Race in Rotterdam

The cruise season in Rotterdam has officially started. Mv. “Oriana” has arrived at the Wilhelmina pier. For the 4th consecutive year in a row we enjoy the arrivals of large cruise vessels in the Rotterdam Port. Together with the Volvo Ocean Race visiting the Port of Rotterdam in the weekend of 10th June with a Port Race, it shows: Rotterdam is more than just a Working Port!

Why choose Vulcaanhaven?

With our hands on approach on the terminal we act quick and swift. Reacting to clients demands almost instantly. Impossible? Try it out and challenge us. Don't forget, we actually see our daily activities. With our office on top of the terminal! With our equipment always on the 'standby' 7 operational machines for crushing/screening gives us a great advantage to serve clients quicker then anyone else.

The picture shows the layout of our terminal. Within a radius of 150 meters you can discharge vessels (draft 12 meters), weigh, warehouse, process, deliver!

You cannot get any better elsewhere. Working with Vulcaanhaven means working with a real team.  Dedicated people bringing up the best in each other and making that team effort available to clients worldwide. Even top management is involved in the day to day running.

New friends

Vulcaanhaven is present at all major conferences in the metals industry. During the very well attended China Ferro-Alloys conference hosted last month in Xi'an by the Chinese organisation www.ferro-alloys.com our Chinese speaking operations manager Mr. Rudi Voorrecht was greeted by a lot of new friends.

Especially Chinese companies were very well represented, with Xi'an (one of China's former capitals, located in the western part of China) seemingly a bit out of the way for most Western companies. However many Chinese ferro-alloys companies and producers are based in Xi'an and neighboring provinces.

Next years event will be held in Shanghai, which is easier accessible for most foreign visitors. We are looking forward to it and hope that this upcoming conference will host an equally interesting number of presentations

ECB: Economic Growth Eurozone Continues

The European Central Bank (ECB) has adjusted her growth figures upwards. Despite the high oil price it is believed growth continues at an average pace of 2,1% for the 12 euro countries. First quarter growth figures showed Holland at 2,9%  Businesses continue to invest, consumer spending continues and the world economy is described as dynamic.
