Spring is in the air...
It is that time of the year again in Holland. Spring stands for colour,
growth, blossom. No doubt one of the nicest times of the year. Although
we work in a Port environment, commonly assumed as ‘dirty’, we succeed
in distinguishing ourselves. Our world famous ‘flowerpots’ (originally
from Russian Smelters) prove their usefulness as traffic posts. And of
course each spring, the pots come to life with a large variation of
flora. Who says a Port environment cannot be clean and presentable?
Creativity is the key word. Not only at finding daily solutions for our
clients’ requirements, also in smart infrastructure.
The ‘flowerpots’ throughout all the years, keep reminding us about what
we stand for, blossoming and growth. I could tell you a lot more about
Port environments, have not even started to tell you about the pigeon
family right above our crushing units….
Until the next time and thanks
for showing interest in our newsletter!
Have a good read and thank you for your support!

Third
Party Warehousing -
an accident waiting to happen!
From a legal point of
view third party warehousing is a nightmare.
Party A (client) stores at party B (3rd party), although A believes B
owns/rents/runs the warehouse. Party B concludes a price deal with
party C (the actual warehouse). Party B is ‘in the middle’ paying a fee
to C, receiving a higher fee from A. On times of theft, what to do? Is
it properly insured, was the insurance company aware of B’s role? How
about commodity finance? Is the bank aware? After all, it is his
collateral. Party B does not pay party C, business is not to good,
operating costs for B are higher then his revenues. Party C is not
amused, he wants to get paid. Despite various efforts, no funds are
received. Finally party C does not deliver out to party B whom he sees
as his principal. The real principal, party A, paid all his dues to
party B. Party B eventually disappears. Party C finally connects with
Party A. Party A can get his cargo, of course, as long as all warehouse
costs are paid…… Party A pays twice. Be alert and realise who you are
dealing with, it avoids many problems. (more

Joke of the
Month
This one is about pets and foul language:
Mrs. Davidson's dishwasher quit working so she calls a repairman.
Since she has to go to work the next day, she tells him, "I'll leave
the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the
counter, and I'll mail you the cheque. Oh, by the way, don't worry
about my bulldog, Spike, he won't bother you. But, whatever you do, do
NOT, under ANY circumstances, talk to my parrot!"
When the repair man arrives at Mrs. Davidson's apartment the next day,
he discovers the biggest and meanest Bull Dog he has ever seen. But
just as she said, the dog just lay there on the carpet watching
the
repairman go about his business.
The Parrot, however, drove him nuts the whole time with his incessant
yelling, cursing, and name calling. Finally the repairman couldn't
contain himself any longer and yelled, "Shut up, you stupid ugly
&n@b*s!#p; bird!"
To which the parrot replied, "Get him, Spike!"

German
Maut: more
traffic over France
The kilometer additional on trucking into Germany has lead to a
substantial increase of transports over the French border into
Switzerland. In the first 2 months of 2004 an added percentage of 13%
traffic was calculated. Transport companies remain creative to avoid
unnecessary double costs. German Transport Minister Stolpe confirmed
the first 100 days MAUT brought the German Government EUR 600
million. (more

Customs
and Fiscal Representation Issues
Presently Vulcaanhaven
operates a customs system with storage documents for each parcel in
store. Once material leaves the warehouse, documents must be altered
accordingly. As from 01st July we will operate the latest customs
system, which is based on our computer software. Stocks moving in and
out will be monitored for customs convenience (and customers
convenience of course!!) and a direct link to the main customs computer
will be provided for. On matters for Limited Fiscal Representation,
please feel free to contact us if any additional information is
required. LFR is a consequence of customs clearances and to defer VAT
which means you do not pay that amount. (more

Plea for help
Sometimes you realise that the things you take for
granted in
western life like access to good doctors and hospitals are unavailable
for many people in this world. You are shocked to learn that people
with whom you have a business relationship but live in another part of
the world are faced with the imminent death of their baby daughter. Not
because there is no cure, but because there is no money. Our collegue
in Tallinn received the following letter:

Tatjana
Our daughter Nastya is 5
months old. She was born with biliary atresia, cirrhosis of the liver.
She is in urgent need of a liver transplant operation. This operation
is her only chance for survival. The operation will not only help her
survive but also lead a normal life. Without this operation she will
not live. This operation can
be performed in the St-Luc university clinic in Brussels, Belgium.
Unfortunately no one in Moscow is yet able to perform this type of
operation for small children and infants. The cost of the operation is
85,000 Euros and this sum does not include travel and living expenses.
We live in the city of
Segezha in Karelia, Russia. We have no means of raising this sum of
money ourselves. This is why we desperately need your help.
All the medical documents
describing Nastya's conditions can be found on our web site http://nastya.onas.ru/en.php .
A special bank account has been opened in order to collect the amount
needed.
We not only need
financial help but also need help spreading the word concerning
Nastya's condition. We would
be very grateful if you could send our link to all your friends with a
description of this matter. We
would be willing to talk to journalists of any kind (television, radio,
newspaper, internet).
If you have well-off
friends, please tell them about our plight. We know of incidents when
certain rich individuals have fully financed such operations for small
children (as in the case of Yegor Yershov). We also know that people
have continued to cover the costs of further medical help and
rehabilitation (as with little Zukhra Mayorova).
We are entirely relying
on your generosity and kindness.
Thank you very much to
all who have helped.
We hope and pray that our
little Nastya will be healthy.
Andrei and Lena
Rogalevich
