New Vulcaanhaven website on-line

The Vulcaanhaven website has been completely restyled, all in line with the Vulcaanhaven house-style, and the look of our newsletters. In future we hope to make our website the portal for more advanced services, where our customers can check their stocks, effect releases etc. But for now only a crisp new site. Go check it out at www.vulcaanhaven.nl. We welcome any comments you may have. (more information: HansM@vulcaanhaven.nl)

Customs tariffs/quotas update

Monthly update on exchange of quotas within the EU have shown the following changes:
- anti dumping on SiMn has been lifted and with GSP Form A duty for EU is 0%;
- as from May 2003 the duty on magnesium has been suspended.

Customs confirm no further changes to be expected during July. For customs clearances, fiscal representation and other relates questions and/or requirements please mail us. (more information: HansO@vulcaanhaven.nl

Seafreights & Baltic sailing list

Despite the disappearing ice situation after a very strong winter, Baltic seafreights are not coming down quickly. Insurance premiums remain high due to pressured results of insurance companies. The oil market and large fluctuation between dollar/euro will keep the market volatile for the next month. (more information: Gertjan@vulcaanhaven.nl)

Available vessels in position: Amur 2531 laycan 10-13/07

Baltiskiy 2801 laycan 20-25/07

European transportation

The German Governement has concluded a bill in May, which will add taxation per km on German roads for trucks. As a result costs for transportation to and through Germany will rise in 2nd half of this year.
The lack of truckdrivers still remains a major concern for trucking companies. This makes it difficult to arrange transport at short notice, as availability of trucks is under pressure.
Some clients prefer to work with trucking companies from Eastern Europe. Transportation rates of these companies can be cheaper due to low cost overhead. We find that quality of trucks and reliability of arrival times remains a major question mark. Insurance aspects should not be neglected, please ensure yourself of CMR conditions throughout Europe including the EU expansion in 2004.
On the whole we foresee stable pricing for the next 6 months with a slight upward trend thereafter. Our advice: choose for quality, not for lowest cost. Include arguments such as what happens with theft/accidents, in your decision making.  (more information: Sebastiaan@vulcaanhaven.nl)

China sailing list

Vulcaanhaven offers regular vessels from Main Ports China directly to her 12 meters drafted quay at Vulcaanhaven (Rotterdam Portno. 610). This allows you to save double handling and barging costs. Savings possibly upto  USD 15.00 p.mt. Depending on your tonnages available, your FOB purchase can be booked at FIOS terms at the rate of USD 28.50 p.mt at present. For smaller tonnages (less than 1000mt) indicative seafreight is USD 32.50  p.mt. FIOST, basis Vulcaanhaven Berth. Our advice: direct discharge at our quay avoids double handling and extra barging (and saves you money).  (more information: Chinadesk@vulcaanhaven.nl)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Are Vulcaanhaven rates always more competitive than others, if so, why?

A: Usually Vulcaanhaven rates are sharper than others. Reasons are simple, more productivity during the day, direct communiation levels internally between office/warehouse, tailor made computer systems. Our infrastructure overall is superior to our competition. In comparison with others, we have more to offer at a neutrally located facility. Our advice: check rates in relation to service. If you are not happy, give us a call. All our clients are important to us!

Q: Are turn around times on processing quicker?

A: Yes, they sure are. Presently we have 7 machines operational, (*) including one machine to process cored wire size. We are able to dedicate one machine for a product. Vulcaanhaven Management is directly involved in the day to day planning of all orders. Crushing or screening is not just putting it through a machine, it involves a lot of work prior and after the processing. Vulcaanhaven produces hour reports internally on each order which information will be used in forward planning of future orders. (* = 3 jaw crushers – 3 firmly installed screening set ups – 1 roller crusher).

Q: How is planning for orders on the terminal arranged?

A: Planning the daily workload is thinking far ahead. Our terminal has many tonnages moving in, moving out and orders to be unpacked/processed and repacked. All this work needs to be carefully planned ahead in view of work carried out but also preparation of all documentary requirements such as clearances through customs. Market conditions demand from us a flexible attitude due to just in time deliveries. Preparation and thinking ahead is an absolute must if we need to meet our daily objective and meet clients demands. Call us for any other requirement!

Q:When can vessels be discharged/loaded, is port information available?

A: The stevedore at Vulcaanhaven works in 2 shifts standard, 0700/1500 & 1500/2300 hrs. shex. Overtime is always an option. Draft at Vulcaanhaven port (port no.610) is 12 meters/39ft. Crane capacity is 17mt per crane. The discharge speed varies depending on the commodity, but on average each crane has a capacity of  250/300mt per hour. The Vulcaanhaven Port is not unionised. Discharge is closely monitored from our office.
